 State Sen. Julie Lassa's campaign to
capture the congressional seat long held by U.S. Rep. Dave Obey
appears to be gaining momentum.

Lassa has hired key staff, aggressively raised money, developed
a campaign message and started appearing at parades and dairy
breakfasts to meet voters.

In an interview, the Stevens Point Democrat says launching a
campaign after Obey's unexpected retirement in May has been like
``going from 0 to 100 miles per hour in 10 seconds flat.''

Republicans have tried to paint Lassa as slow out of the gate in
the campaign for the 7th Congressional district, which has drawn
attention from both parties as a competitive seat that could be key
to the control of the House.
