Farm News: Transferring A Farm Can Be Tough

When families decide its time to transfer farmland or personal assets from one generation to another - it's not always easy.

The Wisconsin Farm Service Agency will be hosting two, one-hour long seminars on how their offices might be able to help ease the transition.  Brad Pfaff, Executive Director of the Wisconsin FSA, said the move to transfer ownership of a farm can be one of the most important decisions in a land owners life - definitely nothing to take lightly.

What some families may not know is that FSA has direct farm real estate and personal property loans available.  They may be able to help eligible customers finance the purchase of farmland or personal assets in unique ways beneficial to the seller and buyer. Some loans carry an interest rate as low as 1.5 percent - but it doesn't replace conventional credit.

The hour-long seminars will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 10 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Participants can attend the seminar in one of two ways, either over the internet and a phone, or just by phone.

Since the seminars are limited in size, early registration is required. Attendees must pre-register by going to http://www.fsa.usda.gov/wi and follow the registration link or contact their local FSA office to sign up. Attendees need to pre-register for the event on the web at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/wi and follow the seminar link, or contact your local FSA office.
