Farm News: WI Mink Production's UpcommentsPosted: 07.12.2010 There may not be many left - but Wisconsin's mink production went up according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Wisconsin leads the nation in mink production. USDA says nationwide mink production went up approximately one percent for the year. Utah is the number two state in mink production. Federal figures show 278 total mink farms in the United States for 2009 - up one percent from 2008. Mink pelt production went up about one percent in 2009 - totaling 2.86 million pelts. Wisconsin produced over 886,000 pelts and Utah followed with over 613,000 pelts. Mink pelt production also went up in value in 2009. Federal figures pegged the 2009 crop at a value of $186 million, up 58 percent from 2008. The average price per pelt for 2009 was $65.10 up $23.50 from 2008. |
