Farm News: Come on Down to the Green County Fair July21-25!!commentsPosted: 07.16.2010 Feature by summer intern, Ashley Nimtz ![]() Getting ready for a county fair can be alto of work for all who are involved. Whether you have livestock to show, auctions to sell at, or arts and crafts to put up in the exhibition hall…it takes months of preparation. While youth are making sure their exhibits are going to be ready in time, many adults, both volunteer and paid, are working just as hard to make sure that the fair and the grounds themselves are going to be ready for the people and the exhibitors, and of course they have to take care of getting the judges and the entertainment as well.
This year at the Green County Fair as well as many other local county fairs, youth exhibitors started working with their livestock months ago. Some exhibitors started teaching their animals to walk and how to behave in the show ring way back in November or December while they were on their winter break. Other youth began snapping their pictures, or started painting and cleaning their ceramic pieces as soon as the county fair was over last summer!! In the end, it is the county fair that a 4-H or FFA member looks forward to the most every year. It is a chance for them so show off everything that they know about their projects and most of all it is their chance to show off all the hard work that they have put into getting their projects ready for the Green County Fair.
It takes more than just the youth exhibitors to make the fair…a day at the Fair!! Many adults from the fair office, extension office, and the adult leaders work to make sure that everything runs smoothly at the fairgrounds. They plan the entertainment for each night, find the judges, and are there to answer any questions that one may have about the fair or the county itself.
The Green County Fair starts next Wednesday, July 21 and will run through July 25 in Monroe, WI. The week gets started with the Three Hills Rodeo Wednesday night, the Badger State Tractor Pull on Thursday, concerts by Maggie Mae and Lonestar on Friday and Saturday night, and the Fair will wrap up with the Demolition Derby on Sunday evening. For more information about the Green County Fair visit www.green countyfair.net. If you are looking for some fun this next week, be sure to head on down to the Green County Fair July 21-25!!
