Farm News: Lightning Strikes Dairy Herd

A Green County farmer says his dairy
business is struggling to recover after a lightning strike killed
eight of his cows.

Brad and Cathy Timm were at home Thursday evening when a loud
boom rattled the entire house.
The boom was apparently a lightning
strike that hit a tree at the edge of their field.

Eight cows that had been gathered around the tree were killed.

Timm had about 40 cows, meaning the loss represents about a 20
percent loss in income. That doesn't include the fact that the cows
were worth about $15,000.

The Timms tell WMTV-TV the loss is tough to swallow. But they
add that in their business a person learns to move on.
