A large storm with tornadoes traveled right down the center of Turtle Flambeau Flowage Tuesday night flattening almost 75% of the camping sites. This tornado left a path 8 mi long by 1 mi wide. The storm left trees and debris everywhere.

Jay Gallagher, the incident commander, says that boating and fishing remain open. He cautions the boaters to be careful with all of the debris in the water right now. Gallagher explains that the DNR and local land and forest officials will decide after completing the damage assessment Friday to figure out which campsites will be reopened soon and which ones may never be reopened. He says that their goal is to have a limited number of campsites reopened early next week.

Gallagher assures that a campsite will not be reopened unless they are positive that it is completely safe. He warns that before traveling to visit the Turtle Flambeau Flowage to call and see if campsites are open and available.

For more information about the storm, campsites or updates on the damage call Chris Niehaus or Paul Bruggink at (715)-476-7846.
