Farm News: Wisconsin Farm Expenses DropcommentsPosted: 08.06.2010
Wisconsin farmers can probably take a look back in their checkbook ledgers and endorse the latest expense figures from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. According to the survey, Wisconsin farm production expenditures totaled $9.02 billion in 2009, compared with $9.44 billion in 2008. The majority of expenditure categories showed a decrease between 2008 and 2009. However, rent, taxes, and farm improvements & construction expenses increased from last year, while farm supplies & repairs, fertilizer, lime & soil conditioners, seeds & plants, and miscellaneous capital expenses showed no change from the previous year. There were four expenditure categories that decreased 15 percent or more, led by a 19 percent decline for fuels. The others were other farm machinery, tractors & self-propelled farm machinery, and livestock, poultry & related expenses. The top three categories, representing 39 percent of the total farm production expenditures, were feed - 14 percent; farm services - 14 percent; and labor - 10 percent. Expenditures per Wisconsin farm averaged $115,641 in 2009, compared with $121,026 in 2008. The average Wisconsin farm spent $16,667 on feed, $16,154 on farm services, and $11,795 on labor. |
