Farm News: Day 4- ShowmanshipcommentsPosted: 08.08.2010 Feature by Summer Intern , Ashley Nimtz The
Dairy Showmanship contest was this morning. We got up even earlier than the rest of the days. We were up at 3:30 in the morning. Everyone needing help setting up toplines and the show started promptly at 8:00am. The barns were all super busy all day. Then after the showmanship contest concluded I was to be on barn duty until the Dairy Youth Celebration Auction at 2:00. The auction recognizes youth and the champions of the show. This is also a time for youth that are outstanding in the dairy industry. After the auction it was time for me to try and catch up on some sleep before staying up all night to watch
and take care of our dairy cattle. This is for some reason one of my favorite parts of showing at the Wisconsin State Fair. I was lucky enough this year to have overnight barn duty with some of my best friends. We managed to have so much fun. The best part was the obstacle course that we made in the middle of the barn aisle. Then we started getting everything ready for morning chores. We had to get out all of the wash hoses, the soap, the buckets, and finally the animals that they were going to be washing first. After awhile we also brought in the new bedding and feed that would be needed for Sunday. As soon as the other exhibitors from Green County came out for morning chores I was able to go back up to the dorm and get some much needed sleep.
