Farm News: State Fair Hosts Futurity Saturday

Saturday, during the Wisconsin State Fair - visitors will have a chance to see some of the best examples of Holstein dairy genetics in the state! The Wisconsin Holstein Association's 2010 Wisconsin Holstein Futurity begins at 5 p.m. in the Coliseum.

The Holstein Futurity is different from a traditional show because exhibitors trade in their show whites for tuxedos, suits, and formal gowns competing not only to see who has the best animal, but also to see who will be the best dressed. The animals being exhibited in this year’s show were entered in 2007 as calves and will be exhibited as three-year-old cows. Of the original 201 animals entered, spectators can look forward to seeing over 20 of the confirmed animals shine like stars as they enter the show arena.

This year marks the 24th Anniversary of the Wisconsin Holstein Futurity. The purpose of the Futurity is to help promote the dairy industry to the general public and display the care and dedication Holstein Breeders have for their animals and the products they produce. During the show, the exhibitors parade their cattle around the ring in hopes of winning the first place cash award.
