Farm News: Gill Celebrates 30 Years Of Winning

You could hear the smiles over the phone - 30 years of winning for the Gill family from Platteville.

Dave Gill of Pork Chop Ridge farm in Platteville was named Premiere Exhibitor and Premiere Breeder for the 30th consecutive year at the Wisconsin State Fair!  Gill and his family are exhibiting prize winning Berkshire hogs - hogs that find strong markets domestically and internationally.

Son, Bryant, said they had 27 hogs of their own on display at State Fair Park - helping to make it the largest swine display during the open show at the fair.

The Gill family farm handles between 100-150 sows each year.  Berkshire pork is prized for its juiciness, flavor and tenderness, is pink-hued and heavily marbled. Its high fat content allows it to cook longer and at higher temperatures then many other breeds.

Bryant told Pam Jahnke that they're shipping their Berkshire pork to high end restaurants all around the United States - and that Japan is still a major consumer of Berkshire pork too!
