It was a hot and humid night on Tuesday when the Wisconsin State Fair's Meat Products Show began, but according to Donna Faulkner with the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation - the bidding was what was really hot!

Faulkner tells Pam Jahnke that the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation's 19th Annual Governor's Sweepstakes Meat Products Auction generated over $44,000 for 4-H, through bids, donations, and sponsorships. The total tally is more than $7,000 more than last year’s auction!

The auction raises money for Wisconsin 4-H youth programs statewide – impacting nearly 100,000 kids. Faulkner told Pam Jahnke that there was a very special part of the sale when the crowd was asked to pledge donation for the  State 4-H Youth Leader Council. The impromptu crowd activity brought in  $4,200 in just a few minutes.  Faulkner says 14 auction participants pledged $300 each to help after State 4-H Youth Leader Council President,  Ann O'Leary shared some of her 4-H leadership experiences.

"Best of Show" was the Grand Champion Bone-In Ham processed by Haen Meat Packing, Inc. of Kaukauna. Riteway Bus Service, Richfield; Egg Innovations, Port Washington; Representative Scott Gunderson, Waterford; Pleasant View Dairy Farms, Port Washington; Century Acres, Port Washington; and LeRoy C. Haeuser & Co. S.C. Rural Insurance, Cedarburg formed the bidding consortium who purchased the "Best of Show" Bone-In Ham for $3,750.

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle was on hand to welcome nearly 200 meat processors, and guests to the event. Terri Dallas, Wisconsin 4-H Foundation Board President, also received a $3,000 sponsorship check from the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors, presented by their Executive Secretary, Peter Drone.

The winning meat processors of the State Fair Meat Products Show were: Brandon Meats & Sausages, Inc., Brandon; Country Fresh Meats, Weston; Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly, Oconomowoc; Haen Meat Packing, Inc., Kaukauna; Harry Hansen Meat Service, Franksville; Karl's Country Market, Menomonee Falls; Lodi Sausage Company, Lodi; Pernat Premium Meats, Johnson Creek; RJ's Meats & Groceries, Hudson and Wyttenbach Meats, Prairie du Sac.

For the first time, the Wisconsin State Fair Meat Products Show offered a Best of Show award. The winner was Haen Meat Packing Inc. of Kaukauna for their Bone-In Ham.

The evening closed with Wisconsin State Fair cream puffs, donated by the Wisconsin Bakers Association for all of the auction guests to enjoy.
