Over 500 bikers are hoping for good weather on September 11th - as they mount up for the 4th annual "Bike the Barns" event to raise money for low income families in the Dane county area.

The event will concentrate on a path around DeForest, Columbus, and Sun Prairie - allowing bicyclists to see beautiful farm country - and local grower operations.  The event is organized by the Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition, and all money generated will help low-income families purchase fresh, local, organic vegetables and hopefully, the group says - have a direct connection with their food and farm through community supported agriculture. Their financial goal is to raise $35,000.

Ride organizers say they've seen an increased need for the assistance this year.  MACSAC's "Partner Shares Program" has provided more than 15,000 pounds of fresh vegetables to low-income families each year since it began. 

The bike route encompasses about 62 miles in Dane county and will wrap up with an "after party" in Token Creek beginning at 4 p.m.  The "after party" is open to the public and no preregistration is required.  Find out more about the event at http://www.macsac.org/bikethebarns/
