Wisconsin land owners that are interested in enrolling acreage in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) or being involved in the Supplemental Revenue Assistance (SURE) watch the deadlines!
Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) sign-up continues through August 27, 2010. SURE goes through September 30th.
CRP is a voluntary program that helps farmers and land owners to use their environmentally sensitive land for conservation benefits. Producers enrolling in CRP plant long-term, resource-conserving covers in exchange for rental payments, cost-share, and technical assistance. Participants voluntarily remove environmentally sensitive land from agricultural production by entering into long-term contracts for 10 to 15 years. In exchange, participants receive annual rental payments and a payment of up to 50 percent of the cost of establishing conservation practices.
SURE provides crop disaster assistance payments to eligible producers on farms that have suffered crop production or crop quality losses. The program provides up to 60 percent of the difference between the SURE farm guarantee and total farm revenue. For all the details on these programs - check in with your county Farm Service Agency office - or go to http://www.fsa.usda.gov/
