Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a farm accident in Outagamie County.
WLUK-TV in Green Bay reports that Cornoer Ruth Wulgaert identifies him as 42-year-old Terry A. Hintz. He's from the Seymour area.
The sheriff's office says deputies were sent to the farm Wednesday after a family reported that Hintz was missing, that he had been seen earlier near the grain bin, and that they had begun emptying it.
Hintz was discovered in the grain bin late Wednesday night. The sheriff's office says the bin had been full and holds about 50,000 bushels of grain.
Nolan Anderson, Dane county extension agent, says this is the time of the year when growers have to up their game on farm safety. As harvest begins, there's more possibilities then ever that farmers can be harmed by farm equipment - or threatened on roads with traffic around moving farm equipment.
Saturday, September 11th, Dane, Green and Rock county will be conducting a special Farm Safety Training day for emergency responders and anyone interested in brushing up on their safety skills. Anderson says that 30 years ago - most emergency responders would have had some agricultural experience. Today, an emergency responder might have absolutely no idea how to even turn off a running tractor to begin a rescue operation.
Register for the farm safety day by September 1st by conducting any of those county extension offices.
