The 2010 production of sweet corn and snap beans for processing are both expected to decrease in Wisconsin. Sweet corn for process-ing production is anticipated to total 585,220 tons, down 12 percent from last year. This decrease is due to a drop in acres harvested, from 85,700 in 2009 to 76,700 in 2010. Contracted snap bean pro-duction is forecast at 326,900 tons, down from 351,190 tons last year. Nationally, the 2010 contracted processing production for sweet corn and snap beans is forecast at 3.47 million tons, down 14 percent from a year ago. Contracted snap bean production, at 736,680 tons, fell 6 percent. Contracted sweet corn production dropped 16 percent to 2.73 million tons. |
