Effective this fall, tuition for students from Illinois and Iowa who attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Farm and Industry Short Course will be dramatically reduced. Students from those states will now pay the same, lower rate charged to Minnesota students under the Wisconsin-Minnesota tuition reciprocity agreement.

"In recent years we’ve seen a significant increase in interest from both of those states. We have some capacity to increase enrollment, and because of proximity, these students are a logical pool from which to recruit," says short course director Ted Halbach.

Under this initiative, students from Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota will pay $4,518 instead of the usual out-of-state tuition of $10,097.

The Short Course program offers one- and two-year certificates to students interested in production agriculture, landscaping or one of Wisconsin’s many other agricultural industries. Up to 15 credits earned in the program can be transferred to undergraduate degree programs at the UW-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and other UW System agricultural schools. The program offers courses from November to April.

For more information, see the program’s website at fisc.cals.wisc.edu or contact the Short Course office at (608) 263-3918 or fisc@cals.wisc.edu.
