Farm News: Harvest Schedule AdvancescommentsPosted: 09.13.2010 Despite cooler weather - Wisconsin farmers have already harvested 44 percent of this years corn silage! Soybeans are also advancing nicely. 66 percent of the crop has already turned to a yellowish brown - signaling maturity. That mark is 30 points ahead of this time last year. Growers are also noticing that pod fill on the plant is very good - some growers noting the crop looks larger then usual. The cooler temperatures statewide did help with the potatoe harvest - and apple picking is active in most growing regions. As growers move through their harvest - where corn silage has been chopped, manure spreading has started. Where tillage has been completed - now growers are working on planting fall seeded crops like rye and wheat.
