State health officials are investigating after donated blood in Waukesa tested positive for the West Nile virus.

The Journal Sentinel reports Tuesday that it's not clear if the
person who donated the blood had symptoms. About 80 percent of
those infected don't get sick.

Meanwhile, Waukesha County reported that a crow and a blue jay
have tested positive for the mosquito-transmitted virus __ the first
such birds of the season.

Mosquitoes spread the virus by feeding on infected birds then
spreading the virus to humans.

The county health department recommends people protect
themselves against West Nile by avoiding mosquitoes, including by
staying inside at dawn and dusk and using bug spray.
