Whooping crane enthusiasts and people
working to save them from extinction are expected in Necedah this
weekend.
The Necedah Whooping Crane Festival is being held Saturday in
Necedah.
Festival Chairman Dave Arnold says he expects about 4,000 people
to make it out to Necedah Lion's Park. A portion of the proceeds
goes toward the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership.
That's an international coalition of public and private
organizations. It has conducted a reintroduction project to try to
return the species to its historic range in eastern North America.
Most of the proceeds go to the Lion's Club, which is putting on
the event.
Among the activities Saturday are a pancake breakfast, bus tours
and guided walks of the Necedah Wildlife Refuge and a 10K run.
