Farm News: Farmers Take Advantage Of Weather

At least some Wisconsin farmers did!

The latest update of the state's crop quality says that 65 percent of the corn silage is already in the bag, bunk or silo!  Quite a change from a year ago!

Wisconsin farmers says the corn silage yields have been running average to above average - but they're just happy to have the crop in.  It doesn't look like the rest of the corn crop is too far behind for grain purposes either.  To date, 93 percent of the corn is dented and 47 percent is mature - ready to go for the combine once it dries down a bit.

Soybeans are advancing too.  There was a 25 percent jump in the amount of soybeans that have dropped their leaves - a sign of maturity.  The state's now at 50 percent.

There were some areas of Wisconsin that got slowed down with wet weather though.  Central Wisconsin counties and Western Wisconsin counties said that third and fourth crop hay cutting was stopped - and potato harvesting in Langlade and Portage counties ended because of wet weather.
