Farm News: Tragedy Brings Two Families Together

For nearly four decades, the Grand Champion Award for the top Holstein cow at the Wisconsin Championship Holstein Show has been given in memory of Allen Hetts.  Hetts was an outstanding Holstein breeder from Crescent Beauty Farms of Fort Atkinson and its been presented in his honor since his untimely death in 1973.

Now the Hetts family has decided its time to share that special honor with another Holstein family that's lost a family member.

In August, a tragic farm accident claimed the life of Brian Krull of Lake Mills.  Krull was a two time president of the Wisconsin Holstein Association and chair of many state committees.  The Hett family has decided it is time to pass this trophy presentation on in the memory of Brian Krull.

Hett's family said they know what it has meant to see Wisconsin’s top Holstein breeders compete to win Allen’s trophy, and they feel that their Dad’s dedication and love of the Holstein cow was kept alive through this memorial to him.  They're hoping to extend that same comfort to the Krull family.

The Krull and Hetts families have a long history of friendship, love of family, farm and belief in this industry.

A $1,000 donation was made by the Allen Hetts Family to fund this award. That donation was matched by the Wisconsin Holstein Association’s board of directors.

Both the Hetts Family and WHA Board of Directors encourage others who want to honor Brian Krull to make a contribution to this fund, as well. Donations can be sent to the "Brian Krull" Grand Champion Trophy Fund, c/o Wisconsin Holstein Association, 902 Eighth Avenue, Baraboo, WI 53913. Checks should be made payable to the Wisconsin Holstein Association.
